The new Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yuriy Yekhanurov, outlined his reform plans at a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at NATO Headquarters on 7 October.
This was the Mr. Yekhanurov’s first visit to NATO following his appointment as Prime Minister in September this year.
It follows a recent decision by NATO to launch intensified, staff-level talks between NATO and Ukraine on the country’s membership aspirations.
Intensified dialogue
Earlier this year, NATO launched an intensified dialogue on Ukraine's membership aspirations and related reforms, without prejudice to eventual decisions.
“Today, Mr. Prime Minister, we look forward to learning more about your vision for taking Ukraine forward on the path of reform,” said NATO Secretary General at the opening session of the meeting, “This will then allow us to discuss in greater detail, both here in Brussels, and in Kiev, further steps the Alliance might take to help Ukraine overcome the challenges that remain.”
