On 1 June the Secretary General met in Washington with President Bush, Secretary of State Rice, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld as well as Director of National Intelligence Negroponte.
Their discussions centred around NATO’s transforming missions and operations, in particular the expansion of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, the upcoming establishment of the NATO Training, Education and Doctrine Centre in Iraq, the evolving security situation in Kosovo and NATO’s support for the African Union in Darfur.
On 2 June, the Secretary General delivered a speech at a closed seminar at NATO’s Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, Virginia, laying out a vision for NATO’s political and military transformation.
