A ceremony in Aceh, Indonesia, on 18 April marked the formal handover of bridges donated by NATO to Indonesian authorities.

They were handed over by the Dutch Minister Plenipotentiary inIndonesia, Mr. Teunis Kamper, to the Indonesian Minister of PublicWorks, Mr. Djoko Kirmanto.

The Alliance donated 565metres of equipment to assist Indonesia in dealing with theconsequences of the December 2004 Tsunami disaster. The bridges, valuedat more than 6 million Euros, are a donation to Indonesia and will notbe returned to NATO.

The Netherlands, with support from the United Kingdom, transported the equipment to Indonesia.
