Today the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan destroyed its remaining stockpile of anti-personnel landmines.

Today the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan destroyed its remaining stockpile of anti-personnel landmines. The destruction of 1,261 mines was carried out in cooperation with NATO and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP.

This successful project was made possible by the first Partnership for Peace (PfP) Trust Fund project in Central Asia. Financial support is being provided by Canada and the Netherlands. The destruction of this stockpile helps Tajikistan to meet its obligations under the Ottawa Convention.

Other PfP Trust Fund projects to destroy landmines have been completed in Albania, Moldova and Ukraine.
