A third conference of the NATO-Russia Council (NRC) on “The Role of the Military in Combating Terrorism” will be held on 5 April 2004 in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. This event will bring together senior civilian and military officials from NRC member states, as well as a number of practitioners in the field. The participants will take stock of progress achieved within the NRC in fighting terrorism and will exchange views on such topics as practical cooperation in combating terrorism, rapid responses to future terrorist incidents, as well as relevant research and technology utilised to monitor/interdict terrorist activities across borders.
Admiral Edmund P.Giambastiani, Jr., Supreme Allied Commander, Transformation (SACT) will address the participants with introductory remarks.
The key addresses at the conference will be delivered by the Secretary General of NATO, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and the Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergei Ivanov.
The venue of the conference will be Sheraton Waterside, Norfolk, Virginia, USA.
