Mr. de Hoop Scheffer spoke briefly to Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, officially inaugurating the new line.

The direct and secure link between the Secretary General and the Russian Minister of Defence was established in December. It is a further practical contribution to an ever-deepening NATO-Russia relationship.
