Jamie Shea, NATO's former spokesman (July 1993 - September 2000), will become acting spokesman from 1 October.

Lord Robertson made this request to Dr Shea, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for External Relations in the Public Diplomacy Division, following the departure of Yves Brodeur this summer. Dr Shea will assume these functions until a spokesman is appointed.

As part his many activities, Dr Shea will start giving a public video background briefing on current affairs from October that will be made available on the NATO website. This will be followed, in November, by a series of video lectures that will cover different aspects of NATO's transformation. Dr Shea will give these lectures on a monthly basis and will answer questions forwarded by e-mail before and after the event. More information on these new programmes will be available shortly on the NATO Web site.
