Following the attack on Foreign Minister Lindh of Sweden today, the Secretary General wrote to her as follows:

“I have been profoundly shocked to hear the news of the attack you suffered earlier today. I condemn this horrible act in strongest possible terms.

This is an uncivilized attack not only on your person but also the values that we share and that you have always so eloquently defended.

I cannot find any explanation to such a senseless and unacceptable act against someone who has been such an active and determined leader for her country.

Rest assured that the colleagues and friends you have in the Euro-Atlantic community stand with you as you recover from your injuries and prepare to fight back.”
