On 25 June 2003, Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) organized in the capital city of Baky a Donors Conference aimed at raising the awareness of the international community about the ongoing PfP Trust Fund Project in Saloglu area of Azerbaijan, that is supposed to deal with the grave outstanding problem of decontamination of a large part of the Agstafa district of Azerbaijan from the Unexploded Ordnance (OXO).

Mr.Abid Sharifov, Deputy Prime Minister, who was chairing the Donors Conference, in his opening remarks thanked on behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan all the representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan for their participation and dwelt on the history of the problem and the ways it could be solved. Mr.Sharifov appealed to all the invitees to consider contributing to the funding of the PfP Trust Fund Project and join the efforts of the Government of Azerbaijan in this regard.

UNDP Resident Representative in Azerbaijan Mr.Marco Borsotti highly appreciated ANAMA achievements to date and invited all the participants to address the problem of Azerbaijan with due attention.

Ambassador of Turkey to Azerbaijan Mr.Unal Chevikoz in his presentation touched upon the contribution and activities carried out by Turkey in its capacity of the Lead Nation in the PfP Trust Fund Saloglu Project.

Mr.Nazim Ismayilov, Director of ANAMA provided information on current activities of the Agency and objectives to be addressed in the process of implementation of the project.

Mr.Araz Azimov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, elaborated on the mechanism of funds raising and their further utilization within NATO “Partnership for Peace” Program.

The power-point presentation delivered by ANAMA provided full insight to the problem, detailed the project and entailed a lively discussion among the participants. Donors Conference received wide media coverage in the country.
