NATO’s Defence Planning Committee today announced its agreement to a request from President Bush to appoint Admiral Edmund P. Giambastiani, Jr., US Navy, as Supreme Allied Commander, Transformation. The appointment will become effective at a future date, to be determined, following final decisions on NATO’s military command arrangements to be taken by NATO Defence Ministers in June 2003. Admiral Giambastiani is currently serving as the Commander, United States Joint Forces Command.
