The NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Giorgos Papandreou, on behalf of the Presidency of the EU, have signed today in Athens the NATO - EU Agreement on the Security of Information.

This agreement will enable full and effective consultations and co-operation between NATO and the EU on the basis of classified information and related materiel exchanged between both parties.

The NATO-EU Security of Information Agreement represents an important element in the strategic partnership between both organisations and a major step that will facilitate the take-over by the European Union of the military operation currently led by NATO in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia1 .

The Secretary General’s schedule is subject to change. For further information, please contact the NATO Press and Media Service in Brussels.

1.) Turkey recognizes the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name.
