A command post exercise called "Disciplined Warrior" is taking place in Verona, Italy, from 24 February to 7 March.
Discipline Warrior 2003 aims to improve the capabilities of the Southern Region to carry out crisis response operations, in particular, where peace support operations are concerned. It is using modern simulation techniques to replicate the flow of information and decision making processes in a deployed military headquarters.
Staff serving at NATO commands and headquarters are participating in the exercise, as well as personnel from the Turkish General Staff. The exercise also aims to train personnel from Hungarian defence forces, who will have the opportunity to enhance experience in planning for multinational operations. For the first time, the newly established NATO Rapid Deployable Corps HQ based in Solbiate Olona, near Milan, Italy, is also participating in this annual exercise. It is one of the six corps-size rapidly deployable HQ assigned to NATO.
Discipline Warrior 2003 is scheduled by the Regional HQ Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH), responsible for the Mediterranean region, and is conducted by Lt. General Alberto Ficuciello, the commander of Joint Command South (COMJCSOUTH).
