Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson underscored the need for improved defence capabilities in the face of a volatile security environment.

Lord Robertson addressed the Forum on 27 January, where he focused on the challenge of bridging the transatlantic capabilities gap. He pointed out that NATO had achieved a real breakthrough with the launching of Prague Capabilities Commitment, a focused programme aimed at improvements in the most critical areas for modern operations.

The Secretary General also welcomed recent positive developments in defence spending, procurement and industrial cooperation, saying that the pooling of common resources and the sharing of technology was vital in a time of new security threats and challenges.
