The Defence Ministers of the 19 NATO nations condemned today in the most vigorous terms the murder of a Spanish Civil Guard in Leitza, Spain. The cowardly assassination of innocent people is intolerable and unacceptable in any democracy.
NATO ministers reaffirmed their determination to combat terrorism and to reinforce their cooperation in order to stop the scourge of terrorism.
The Secretary General of NATO, Lord Robertson, on behalf of the Defence Ministers, said "I express condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims of this barbaric act as well as to the members of the Guardia Civil. We strongly support and declare our full solidarity with the Government of Spain in its struggle to eradicate terrorism."
