NATO's military authorities are making good progress in preparing for the upcoming NATO Summit in Prague, said the Chairman of NATO's top military body, following a meeting of Alliance military officials in Berlin.
The Military Committee, NATO's highest military authority, travelled to Berlin from 9 to 10 September and to Prague from 11 to 12 September as part of its annual tour of NATO member countries.
An informal meeting of the Committee at level of Chiefs of Staff was held in Berlin on 10 September and focused on the preparations for the November Summit meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government in Prague.
"We are preparing for enlargement with one or more new countries and are determined to work hard to integrate the forces of the nations that eventually join the Alliance," said General Harald Kujat, Chairman of the Committee.
The Committee is also developing a new military concept for defence against terrorism and looking at ways of improving NATO's military capabilities and command structure. The proposals will be submitted for approval to Heads of State and Government at the Prague Summit.
"NATO is evolving towards even more flexible and deployable command and control capabilities that are necessary to meet the new challenges we face today," General Kujat said.
