''These two organisations, which were once said to inhabit the same city but different planets are now working closely together in the interest of peace and stability in Europe'' stated Lord Robertson at a joint press conference with the High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, and the Chairman of the Political and Security Committee of the European Union, Ambassador Casajuna on 30 April.

The two EU officials came to NATO HQ to discuss a wide range of security issues with Lord Robertson and the Permanent Representatives on NATO's North Atlantic Council - the Alliance's top decision making body. They had substantive discussions on NATO-EU cooperation, noting that progress depends on solving the issue of participation, and on their joint missions in the Balkans. They also exchanged information on their experiences in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹, where the EU has proposed to take over from NATO's Operation Amber Fox this Autumn.
