Phase 1 of a NATO Partnership for Peace military exercise, Cooperative Nugget 2002, has started in Sweden, 20-26 April. It consists of a workshop on NATO's operational planning process and involves military personnel from five NATO countries and 13 partner countries.
This part of the exercise is being hosted by the Swedish Armed Forces International Centre/Partnership for Peace Training Centre in Almnas. Phase 2 will take place at Fort Drum Army Base in Watertown, New York from 19-27 June and will involve two other sites: one for the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Commander Response Cell in Lisbon, Portugal, and the other for a Battalion Response Cell in Enkoping, Sweden.
Cooperative Nugget 2002 is a command post and computer assisted exercise, which aims to improve interoperability, mutual understanding and cooperation between NATO and partner countries during NATO-led crisis response operations. It comes under the command of the Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT).
