A Foundation Stone ceremony was held at the NATO Joint Sub-Regional Command South West, in Pozuelo de Alarcón near Madrid on 17 April, marking the establishment of new facilities for this headquarters in Spain.
The ceremony was attended by Admiral Gregory Johnson, Commander-in Chief of Allied Forces Southern Europe (CINSOUTH), under whose command JSRC Madrid operates and the commander of JSRC Madrid, Lieutenant General Juan Narro Romero from the Spanish Army. The Spanish Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Antonio Moreno Barberá, also attended the ceremony and stated that this command would help to integrate the Spanish armed forces in the military structure of the Alliance. The facilities are expected to be completed by the end of 2005.
