Speaking on March 1 at NATO headquarters at a Point de Presse with the Ukrainian Prime Minister, HE Mr A Kinakh, the Secretary General made the following statement:
First, I want to thank the troops who took part in the operation. I never take lightly my responsibility to ask soldiers to risk their lives. But they did yesterday and with great courage and skill.
Obviously, I was disappointed Karadzic was not detained this time. But, this is not the end of the story. This was not the first time we have launched such an operation to arrest Karadzic, and, it will not be the last. I repeat, it will not be the last.
Everyone should draw the right message from what you saw yesterday. We are on Karadzic's trail, and we are not going to give up. We will do whatever we have to do to catch him.
Indeed, you may be aware that we launched another operation today based on information from yesterday's raid. There was no arrest, however this still demonstrates that we will relentlessly follow up any lead until the job is done and Karadzic is in the Hague.
I have a solemn message for Karadzic, and others indicted for war crimes - your time is running out. One day, whether it is tomorrow, next week, next month or next year, SFOR will come for you.
The only way the hunt will end is if you hand yourself in. So surrender now, with some dignity, or justice will be brought to you.
