NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson visited Sofia, Bulgaria, on 28 February to discuss Bulgaria's progress towards fulfilling criteria for NATO membership and the country's prospects for joining the Alliance with Bulgarian political leaders.
In the course of his visit, Lord Robertson met with President Georgi Parvanov, Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha, Defence Minister Nikolay Svinarov and Foreign Minister Solomon Passy as well as the parliamentary speaker and other parliamentarians.
Lord Robertson's Bulgarian trip was the last in a series of visits to the nine countries seeking to join the Alliance at its forthcoming Prague Summit. All nine countries participate in NATO's Membership Action Plan.
