President Trajkovski of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ has officially requested a three-month extension of NATO's Operation Amber Fox, which was due to finish at the end of the year.

NATO's top decision-making body, the North Atlantic Council, will consider this request, after consultation with NATO military authorities. Task Force Fox has the specific mandate of contributing to the protection of monitors from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the European Union, who are overseeing the implementation of the August peace plan. The operation consists of approximately 700 troops from NATO member countries, which have reinforced some 300 troops already based in the country.

  1. Turkey recognizes the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name.
