General Harald Kujat, German Air Force, German Chief of Staff, has been elected by the Military Committee -NATO's highest military authority- to become its Chairman after the June Ministerial meetings next year.
General Kujat is currently Chief of Staff, Federal Armed Forces, and previously held positions both at NATO HQ, Brussels, and at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Mons. He will succeed the present Chairman, Admiral Guido Venturoni, Italy, who was appointed Chairman of the Military Committee on 6 May 1999. Military Committee Chairmen are appointed for a three year term of office.
