Ukrainian officials, representatives from international organisations and research institutes and former government officials from Italy and Poland gathered in Kyiv, 9-10 November for a conference on ''Ukraine's European choice: internal transformations and search for a new foreign policy role.''

Participants focused their discussions on economic, security and political developments in Ukraine: EU enlargement and the prospects of Ukraine's integration in European markets, Ukraine's role in promoting European security and the role of Parliament and civil society in the process of democratisation and institution-building in Ukraine. The impact of the terrorist attacks against the United States on global security and, more specifically, on NATO's role, was also raised during the discussions.

The conference was organised by the Center for European and International Studies, Institute of International Relations, Kyiv, the Instituto Affari Internazionali, Rome, and the Center for International Relations, Warsaw. It was co-sponsored by NATO.
