The Standing Naval Force Atlantic (STANAVFORLANT) stopped off at the Naval base of Zeebrugge in Belgium on 17 October before sailing on to the Eastern Mediterranean on 22 October, where NATO forces stand ready in support of Article 5 operations against terrorism.
During its time in Zeebrugge, the crew participated in briefings and meetings in preparation of future exercises and operations. It also took the opportunity to perform routine maintenance checks on systems and equipment.
STANAVFORLANT is part of NATO's immediate reaction forces. It will join the Standing Naval Force Mediterranean (STANAVFORMED) in the Eastern Mediterranean which has been deployed there since 9 October. It is currently formed of a crew of 1 800 serving onboard nine ships.
