One of the largest NATO exercises to be held in Southern Europe is taking place, 1-25 October. Exercise Exchange Adventure 2001 is taking place in North-West Turkey, where high readiness forces, and more specifically, NATO's Immediate Reaction Task Force (Land) have been deployed and are training.

This live field training exercise involves approximately 2 000 troops from 14 different NATO countries in Article 5 joint and combined deterrent and combat operations. Ground and air forces are practising their operational procedures and logistical capabilities in a multinational environment.

The exercise is scheduled by General Joseph Ralston, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and Admiral James Ellis, Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe (CINCSOUTH).
