Since the 6 September decision by the parliament of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ to proceed with constitutional reforms, Operation Essential Harvest has resumed. As established at the beginning of the operation, NATO forces are continuing to collect, transport and destroy weapons and ammunition from different sites in the country.

This operation, which is vital in helping establish peace and stability in the region, is continuing despite the acts of terrorism committed against the United States, 11 September. There was a minute of silence on 12 September at the NATO Press Centre in Skopje for victims and relatives of the devastating attacks.

NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson will travel to Skopje on 14 September to consult with the president and government leaders of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia¹ and to assess the progress made so far.

  1. Turkey recognizes the Republic of Macedonia with its constitutional name.
