The North Atlantic Council has expressed its deepest sympathy and solidarity to the United States and resolutely condemned the barbaric terrorist acts committed against the American people in New York and Washington D.C. on 11 September.
At a special meeting on the evening of 11 September, the NATO allies declared that the United States can rely on their support and assistance. NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson condemned the attacks "in the strongest possible terms" and firmly underlined "the need for the international community and the members of the Alliance to unite their forces in fighting the scourge of terrorism".
