Under the aegis of the NATO Air Defence Committee (NADC), the Belgian Authorities will host an air defence seminar in the Hotel Beauregard from 11 to 15 June 2001. This air defence seminar is organised in the context of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC)/Partnership for Peace (PfP) Programme and the NADC's Guidelines for Co-operation. The theme of the seminar is 'Employment of the Reserve Forces in Air Defence'.

Fifty-two representatives from twelve NATO nations (Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, United States) and twelve Partner nations (Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Ireland, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland) as well as associated military agencies are scheduled to participate in the seminar which is the tenth seminar in a series sponsored by the NADC and hosted by NATO and Partner nations.

Amongst the topics to be presented and discussed are:

  • German experiences in employment of reserve forces in Air Defence
  • Use of reserve forces - Slovenia
  • Integration of Active and Reserve Components - United States
  • Reserve Employment in Air Defence - France
  • Reserve in Royal Netherlands Air Forces
  • Swiss Militia System
  • Polish Reserve Force Concept
  • Relationship with employers - United Kingdom
  • The future of the NRFC (NATO Reserve Force Committee) - Denmark
  • The New Reserves - Belgium

The presentations and exchange of views on these topics will contribute to a common understanding on issues related to reserve forces and their use in air defence. NATO and Partner forces are of particular interest and relevance in light of the focus on enhanced and more operational Partnership as endorsed at the Washington Summit.

Poland will host the next Seminar in October 2001 on the topic 'Today's and Future Pilot Training to Meet Airpower Needs'.
