The Prime Minister of Croatia, Ivica Racan, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tonino Picula, and the Minister of Defence, Jozo Rados, met Lord Robertson and addressed the North Atlantic Council (NAC), NATO's top decision-making body, on 16 May.

The contribution of Croatia to regional stability, in particular, its role in helping to foster the objectives of the Dayton Peace Accords were discussed. Prime Minister Racan reassured the Permanent Representatives of the NAC that Croatia would continue to condemn the activities of Bosnian-Croat hard-liners in Bosnia and Herzegovina, adding that it was in everybody's interest to create a stable situation in the region.

They also discussed Croatia's internal situation and the political reforms being adopted by the present government, which has been in power for one year. Lord Robertson stated, at a joint press conference, that NATO would support and assist Croatia in its aspirations to become a fully fledged member of the Euro-Atlantic area.
