Following the visit of Serb government officials to NATO HQ on 25 April, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Kosovo, Hans Haekkerup, and a delegation of senior political leaders representing the ethnic groups of the Kosovar community met with Lord Robertson and the North Atlantic Council on 26 April. The recently appointed commander of KFOR, General Thorstein Skiaker, also participated in the meeting, which focused on the situation in Kosovo.

At a press conference organised after the discussions, Lord Robertson welcomed the positive steps that had been taken so far to increase security in Kosovo, but stated that the level of violence in the province remained unacceptable. He also reiterated the Alliance's commitment to long-term peace and stability in Kosovo.

Lord Robertson also called on the political leaders present to use their influence to persuade their constituents to put an end to these acts of violence, stressing that the future of Kosovo depended on its people.
