Following the announcement of the new command arrangements for NATO-led troops in Bosnia and Herzegovina (SFOR) and in Kosovo (KFOR) last October (see NATO Update 18-24 October), the transfer of command ceremony for SFOR was held at Camp Butmir on 20 February.

Command authority for SFOR has been transferred from Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) to Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH). AFSOUTH is a regional headquarters based in Naples, which comes under the authority of SHAPE. The transfer of command for KFOR took place on 18 January (see NATO Update 15-21 January).
