Representatives from the Confédération Interalliée des Officiers de Réserve (CIOR), an independent confederation of national reserve officers' associations, met for their 53rd Mid-Winter meeting at NATO HQ, 14-16 February.
The CIOR addresses all issues related to reserve forces in NATO countries and has gradually been inviting Partner countries to participate in its activities (see NATO Update 9-15 February 2000). At this year's meeting, Latvia was welcomed as a new associate member, joining Austria, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland (Croatia has observer status). Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia1 are possible candidates for future associate membership and formal ties have been established with Ireland, Moldova and Ukraine.
