The implementation aspects of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) are currently being debated at the NATO Verification Co-ordinating Committee's annual seminar, 14-16 February. All 30 signatories of the Treaty are attending the seminar, which is an informal forum where countries can exchange views and experience on arms control and its practical aspects.

The CFE Treaty was set up in 1990 to reduce the number of conventional weapons in Europe. It officially came into force in 1992 and was transformed in 1999 to adapt to the new international environment. So far, substantial reductions in equipment have been achieved throughout Europe and a great number of inspections have been conducted.
