NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, has appointed Ambassador Alessandro Minuto Rizzo to the position of Deputy Secretary General. Ambassador Minuto Rizzo will take up his duties in the Summer. He is currently Italy's Permanent Representative to the European Union's Policy and Security Committee.
The present Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Sergio Balanzino, who will be leaving his post after seven years in Brussels, is retiring.
