The International Security Policy Conference (formerly known as the Wehrkunde Conference) held its annual meeting in Munich, from 2-3 February. This forum meets every February to discuss NATO-related and transatlantic security issues.

NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson, was invited to participate in the discussions and took the opportunity to underline the many items on NATO's agenda, including the development of stronger European defence capabilities, securing long-term peace and democracy in the Balkans, facing the challenges posed by the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the future of NATO enlargement. He also held a number of bilateral meetings with Alliance leaders, namely the newly appointed US Secretary of State for Defense, Mr Donald Rumsfeld.
