NATO's highest military authority, the Military Committee, visited the Alliance's regional command in Northwood, United Kingdom, on 2 February. This was the first time that representatives of the Military Committee had come to EASTLANT (Regional Headquarters East Atlantic), double-hatted as NAVNORTH (Headquarters Allied Naval Forces North), since new headquarters were built in 1996.

The visit was hosted by the newly appointed Commander-in-Chief East Atlantic, Commander Allied Naval Forces North, Admiral Sir Alan West KCB, who is also UK Commander-in-Chief-Fleet. The double-hatted command, EASTLANT/NAVNORTH, is a regional command under Supreme Allied Command Atlantic (SACLANT) based in Norfolk, USA and a component command under Commander-in-Chief Allied Forces North (CINCNORTH), based in Brunssum, The Netherlands.
