NATO Secretary General, Lord Robertson, arrived in Sarajevo on 20 December where he visited SFOR troops and met with political leaders, namely the Tri-Presidency: Mr Ganjac (Bosniac nationalist Party for Democratice Action - SDA), Mr Jelavic (hard-line Croat Democratic Union - HDZ) and Mr Radisic (Socialist Party of the Republika Srpska - SPRS).

Lord Robertson's visit coincides with the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. This agreement, negotiated in Dayton, Ohio, and signed in Paris in 1995, commits all parties to the progressive implementation of steps toward peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, putting an end to a conflict that broke out in 1992.
