Parliamentarians from NATO countries and five countries participating in NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue - Algeria, Israel, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia - as well as Cyprus, met in Genoa, Italy, at the end of November.

They discussed Middle East security and several cooperation initiatives in the Mediterranean region. The two-day seminar was jointly organised by the Italian parliament and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Analysts from both the Palestinian and Israeli side addressed the seminar in an effort to find ideas on how to rekindle the Middle East peace process.

NATO is not directly involved in this process but the structured political and practical activities of its Mediterranean Dialogue initiative can contribute to stability in the region.
