A three-day workshop was organised by the NATO Office of Information and Press, 3-5 July, for three of the nine aspirant countries belonging to the Membership Action Plan (MAP): Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia.

The aim of this exercise was to exchange views and experiences regarding public perceptions of NATO, relations with the media and more generally, the design and implementation of public information strategies. The workshop falls under the commitment made by NATO members at the Washington Summit in April 1999 with the adoption of the Membership Action Plan, to provide concrete advice and assistance to aspiring members.
