Around 400 maritime rescue specialists from 16 NATO and Partner countries are set to take part in a Partnership for Peace (PfP) exercise in Iceland from 7 to 12 June focused on maritime humanitarian operations. Organised by the Icelandic national civil defence, this is the second NATO/PfP exercise to be directed by civil authorities.

The exercise includes maritime rescue and the handling of casualties on a large scale ashore. A seminar focusing on the physiological and logistical aspects of maritime disasters will be followed by a live exercise aimed at fostering greater interoperability between participating forces at the unit and staff level, while practising humanitarian relief techniques, communication procedures and search and rescue. A lessons learned day will conclude the exercise.
