The committee representing women in the armed forces of NATO member countries held its annual conference at NATO HQ from 22 to 26 May. An estimated 100 women and men from 22 different countries discussed the status of women in NATO's armed forces, policy changes and their impact on women, training and career development.

The Committee on Women in the NATO Forces (CWINF) was established in 1961 and was officially recognised by the Military Committee in 1976. It advises the NATO leadership on issues that specifically affect service women in the armed forces of NATO member countries. The issues raised -policy changes, employment, training, recruitment, career development etc- also have an impact on service men and their quality of life. For further information on the aims and activities of this Committee, refer to the fact sheet Committee on Women in the NATO Forces at: http://www.nato.int/docu/facts/cwinf.htm
