After having been to Ukraine at the end of January, Lord Robertson continued his tour of Partner countries with visits to Bulgaria (9 February), Romania (10 February) and Moldova (11 February). During his press conferences, he stated that NATO remains open to new members and will consider new candidates in 2002. Bulgaria and Romania are among the nine aspiring countries which put themselves forward for NATO membership at the Washington Summit last April. They are currently introducing reforms to conform to the military and economic standards of the Alliance.
