The five-nation Eurocorps (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain) will take command of KFOR, NATO's peacekeeping force in Kosovo, by mid-April. The commander of Eurocorps, General Juan Ortuño of Spain, will therefore lead KFOR as soon as a precise date is set. This decision was taken by NATO members on 4 February after Eurocorps had put itself forward as a candidate for this responsibility last November.
At present, KFOR is commanded by LANDCENT forces which took over from Headquarters Allied Command Rapid Reaction Corps in October 1999.
