On 3-5 October 1999, an EAPC (Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council) Seminar on "Economic Aspects of Military Base Management" will take place in Latvia (Riga and Liepaja). Combined with seminar sessions, practical examples of the economic transformation of a former military site will be shown. About 80 experts from around 20 EAPC countries are expected. The meeting will further deepen the dialogue between NATO and Partner countries on defence restructuring. During the individual panel sessions several pertinent areas will be discussed, including the challenges and opportunities of military base re-development, the managing of the economic transformation of military base with a focus on institutional aspects and the promotion of economic development of former military sites. The session on the economic transformation of the Liepaja military site will include presentations and demonstrations related to the creation of a special economic zone.

Journalists are invited to attend the opening session (on Monday 3 October 1999 from 9.00h to 10.00h and the press conference (on Tuesday 5 October, from 17.30h to 18.00h).
