This afternoon, the North Atlantic Council appointed Mr. George Robertson, currently UK Secretary of State for Defence, as Secretary General of NATO and Chairman of the North Atlantic Council, in succession to Dr. Javier Solana. Mr. Robertson will assume his functions as Secretary General at a date to be determined.
