More than 40 experts from NATO countries, Russia and
other Co-operation Partner Countries will participate in
a NATO Advanced Research Workshop examining "Conversion
of Military Enterprises - A practical Approach of
Industry & Science" from 20-23 November 1995 in St.
Petersburg (Russia).

Since the end of the Cold War, conversation has
frequently been on the agenda; much research has been
done and many research seminars organised. One
outcome suggests that conversion, in its strictest sense,
reutilisation of existing plants and equipment to
produce non-military goods, does not work, or works only
at considerable expense.

The seminar will assess the state of research on
conversion and on the corporate approach,
in order to devise solutions with maximum relevance and
applicability to countries of the CIS.
Scientific, technical and political solutions towards
enterprise conversion will be presented.
Company executives will discuss their conversion
experience, its relevance for Russian companies and for
CIS markets.

Fostering an effective exchange of experience amongst the
participants is therefore an important task of the NATO
workshop. Western participants hope to gain valuable
insights into the CIS conversion effort.

Co-directors of the Workshop are Mr. W.G. Puppe,
Ost-West-Consult GmbH., Dresdner Bank Group
(Frankfurt/Main, Germany) and Mr. D.V. Sergeev,
Association of Industrial Enterprises (St. Petersburg,
Russia).
