NATO's Defence Planning Committee today announced its
agreement to a request from President Clinton to release
Admiral Paul D. Miller from his responsibilities as
Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic at a date yet to be
determined.

In the name of the governments represented on the
Committee, the DPC agreed to his request with great
regret, and expressed its deep and lasting gratitude to
Admiral Miller for his distinguished service as Supreme
Allied Commander, Atlantic.

The DPC also asked President Clinton to nominate an
officer of the United States Armed Forces for appointment
by the Committee, as Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic to
succeed Admiral Miller.
