The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Mr. Manfred Worner, expressed his sadness today on learning of the death of His Majesty King Baudouin, King of the Belgians.
Mr. Worner described King Baudouin as a beloved leader of his people and a tireless champion of the Atlantic Alliance. He emphasized the late King's knowledge of international affairs, his invaluable experience and the wise counsel from which he had benefited during their meetings. Mr. Worner addressed a message of sympathy to Queen Fabiola and the Royal Family and expressed his condolences to the Belgian government and people.
