NATO Secretary General, Mr. Manfred Woerner, has appointed Ambassador Sergio Silvio Balanzino to the position of Deputy Secretary General. Ambassador Balanzino takes up his duties on 1 February 1994. He is currently Italy's Ambassador to Ottawa.
The Deputy Secretary General, Ambassador Amedeo de Franchis, who will be leaving his post after four and a half years in Brussels, is taking up a senior position in the Italian Foreign Ministry.
