Members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NPA) attended a virtual meeting with the North Atlantic Council, on 2 March 2021, to exchange views on NATO’s agenda for the year.

The meeting focused on preparations for the 2021 NATO Summit, in particular on the adaptation of the Alliance through the NATO 2030 initiative. The Secretary General thanked the parliamentarians for their active and valuable contributions to the NATO 2030 process. The North Atlantic Council and the NPA discussed the importance of placing democratic values at the centre of NATO’s future adaptation. “NATO is a platform for protecting democratic values, and the Alliance needs to live up to its founding values” said the Secretary General. It was also an opportunity to discuss the update of strategic concept, burden sharing,  resilience and the COVID-19 pandemic.

This annual joint meeting is part of the regular consultations between the North Atlantic Council and the NPA. The NPA is an inter-parliamentary organisation, bringing together parliamentarians from NATO Allies and associate countries to consider major security and policy issues facing the Alliance.
